Swinging Both Ways

Posted by Rob Russell | 4:39 AM

I've spent a few days revisiting the kettlebell swing.

The question is high, medium or low?

I've followed Bud Jeffries for along time now (ever since I got into these kettle-balls) and watched Bud's recent video of 1 hr of kettlebell swings = 2350 reps. Which made me question how I should be swinging a kettlebell - high or low or somewhere in between?

The answer is 'I don't know', I think if you swing high you'll do less reps and doubt anyone could swing a kettlebell for an hour with this style. Swinging 'low' means you could last for longer.

Any ideas anyone? I'm sure we've all got our own ideas and goals to reach

For now I'll be swinging 'my way' and going for time, mixed in with kettlebell snatches.
Last nights session involved, low kettlebell swings to see what was possible in 5 minutes - 200 swings (to get a feel for what Bud is doing). I quite liked the session and will probably use it one easier days when an all out session seems quite daunting.

to me, that is imperfect technique , the hip snap seems the most important ingredient of the swing , and this obviously doesnt involve much of one , or the bell would be flung to chest height , like u say , its probably better then not doing anything, but on one of those days i would do (what i consider) preoper swings with a lighter bell, havng said that , bud is a beast !!

Bud is an awesome beast and hats off to anyone who could hold a kettlebell for an hour never mind swing it, I think this is the only way to get 2350 reps otherwise the bell will be in the air for longer between reps! I've done a few warm ups to 250 reps tonight and it's a real grip challenge. 30 minutes is incredible and 60 is off the dial. Swing-on-swing-on!!! Cheers Boar
i bet you'll be massaging yourself with some kb training to ease yourself for a deserved rest from strongman

yes ! i can certainly appriciate the grip endurance of such a feat ! after 12 sets of 30 swings with my 24 (about 9 mins) my forearms are reasy to explode and my hands like jelly !!
