Adlington Push and Pull 2010
Had a great day on saturday at the Adlington Barbell Push and Pull 2010. Made the trip over with HMGS's Pat Hodgson. Had the customary bacon butty in the A6 Storage facility in Chorley where the event was being held, also had to laugh at the 'Ass. Muffins' that were on sale (I believe they might have been assorted muffins!).
Well, the event was a great one with a great atmosphere and some great lifters.
It was a great day of lifting for me Overhead went 140, 150, 155kg and Deadlift 250, 260, 272.5kg (600lb)
Also, got to meet Jonnywildboar for the first time, the creator of the video below and owner of Boarvision Strength Productions
Adlington Barbell
Overall was well chuffed with my performance even if it was a litle rough around the edges. Will definitely be back next year stronger.

Next job is find another strongman comp and get training for it
Kettlebell Bup's and Continental Clean and Push Press
Got 2 personal bests yesterday. Had a quick play around with the kettlebell BUP's in the afternoon and then did a barbell session at night. Deadlift tonight for my last session before the Push and Pull

Deadlift Training
In preparation for Adlington Push and Pull next weekend, I deadlifted last night again. Working upto 250kg (see video).
Much to work on with my technique and speed from the floor but coming on fairly well (in relation to what I have been doing). I hope to add about 5% for the comp but 10% would be great.
I'm currently alternating speed deadlifts (50-60%1RMAX 2sets 10-12 reps) in Westside Barbell Style along with pyramid training for the other session(this lift is from my pyramid)
Although deadlift is not one of my usual lifts (I have dabbled the odd time or two over the years), I have a long term target of 300kg (660lbs) which this should set me off nicely in the right direction.
For a big bloke I'm not particularly strong in comparison to bodyweight, there are many guys lifting triple bodyweight in the deadlift (but also tearing their own arseholes out training for it), next weekend will see plenty of guys doing this.
The main trick with heavy deadlift is keeping the bar moving and training through your deadlift sticking point.
As deadlift is a full body movement it will certainly transfer over into many other manly activities, one such method I saw for this was by an American sprint trainer who adopted deadlifting along with plyo's about 3 times per week all year round. This kept explosive power and absolute strength topped up all year long and freed up time for more specific training. Interesting stuff check out his website here
In addition to the deadlift the other lift in the competition is the 2 hands anyhow for this I will be using continental clean and jerk (or push press possibly), a great resource for Jerk training can be found here from ditillo2.blogspot.com

60kg Kettlebell BUP
Hit a 60kg bottoms up press last night. Haven’t trained BUP’s for ages so was quite a surprise to get 60kg with no specific training and of very little warm in one of my quick workouts. So all is not lost yet and look out for some big lifting this year.
I was inspired after reading Adam’s Kettlebell article.
Check it out it's well worth reading
Quick Workout/Quick Training Session
Last nights training session was a quick one.
You don't have to kill yourself and train for hours to keep your hand in.
Short workouts are better than doing nothing at all and are great for energising yourself.
After 4x this kettlebell circuit, I did a 25 min dog walk with my 20kg weight jacket (this killed 2 birds with one stone)
