Compex Cefar EMS Article - What can an EMS machine do for you?
EMS devices originated in around 1971 (In Russia) and took the world by storm.
However, today they are less prominent than they were.
Many great sprint champs have/still use these devices - under the tutelage of Charlie Francis (Ben Johnson etc) and also Christian Thibaudeau is an advocator of this method to aid explosiveness training and physical strength enhancement.
I personally have also done many treatments with this apparatus (hence me owning one, but no longer have time to put to good use) my CEFAR is for sale on EBAY
What is an EMS Training Session?
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is the practice of using a special unit to send electrical signals to your muscle in order to make it contract. The motor unit (MU) is the functional unit of muscle contraction, with each motor unit containing a single alpha motor neuron and all the muscle fibers it “enervates” (contracts). The fibers contained in a motor unit grouping are all of the same type and the larger, more powerful muscle fibers (a.k.a. “fast-twitch fibers”) are typically located closer to the skin surface than the “endurance fibers” (a.k.a. “slow-twitch fibers”). Electrode pads are placed over the skin of the muscle with the intent to isolate a specific muscle or sequence of muscles. It’s impossible to isolate a single motor unit because any portion of the muscle where you place the pads will potentially activate fibers belonging to 20-50 motor units.

In summary - several EMS session (15-20) can significanly increase your strength levels when used in conjuction with resistance training

Beast Kettlebell Tower of Power 48kg
From yesterdays training session
60kg BU Snatch
had a very tough session flipping the beast kettlebell for a total of 100 reps including 5 sets of Tower of Terror before moving on to the 60kg
My aim was to do a tower of terror with the 60 but only have failed so far. Much strength is required at the top with this movement to be able to hold and then flip the bell over. However I'm sure I'll get this one soon.
Watch my video of the first time i did the Tower of Terror
Andy Cairney Totally Destroying the Inver Stone
Andy Cairney totally blows my mind with this lift of the Inver Stone, done a few weeks ago.

The Persian Floor Press (Didn't know this originated in Persia, v.interesting)
The Warrior Row
I love Coach Sonnon's view on everything! He allows you to see training in a different light, don't just train without thinking, train and learn and in return become wiser, stronger and fitter.

This is what an entire GYM in a VAN looks like!
From June 09 when my good brother in law Pat Hodgson helped us move house.
It was the biggest all day workout ever done. From 9AM to 10.30PM lifting heavy stuff
Not sure that the van rental company would have liked this (Over a Tonne of Gear probably) and that's without my new Inch Dumbbells (more on this later)
Dogman Sledgehammer Challenge 1hour 20kg
Stef of The Dogman Kettlebell Club attempted the insane 1 hr Sledgehammer test with the 20kg hammer on monday.
The result - 528 strikes
Crazy!!
Equipment needed:
20kg Sledge Hammer
1 Large Tyre
Grip and Lungs of Steel
Other requirements:
To be mentally unstable is a bonus
Other Hammer Superheroes to have attempted this test of strength and willpower are Jon Bruney and John Brookfield
John Brookfield achieved 27-30 strikes per minute with a 23kg Hammer.
Stef's cadence was 1 strike every 6-7 secs (incredible considering he weighs 69kg)
Maybe this will be a challenge of mine soon!

Review of The Rotater
I feel like I received a new pair of shoulders with my ROTATER!
No joke!
Although I've never had any serious rotator cuff problems or any bad shoulder injuries (I have had back spasms caused by stiff shoulders that cost me 4 x £37/hour sports massage sessions and time out from competitive throwing comps), I am prone to tightening up a lot in the shoulders.
When I received my ROTATER a couple of days ago I thought 'it looks pretty simple' and being a sceptic wondered if it would do what it says on the tin?
Without a shadow of a doubt this piece of kit will stretch your shoulders out like nothing else. I've tried everything from rubber bands to a 20st meathead trying to stretch them for me and nothing comes close. This is seriously gonna be big benefit to my kettlebell training (thinks SOTS press, TGU and double overhead squat)
By using the ROTATER on a regular basis I'm sure I'll save a small fortune by not needing massage to right my muscular wrongs.
I'm not trying to blow smoke up the backside of the ROTATER but i think you should get one now.

Heavy Kettlebell Training Session
had a great heavy bell session last night.
Hit the double 40kg BUP, 48kg SOTS, 48kg BUP with both left and right and some BU snatches with the 48kg bell.
Felt great to be back to something resembling a real training session.
